The Clayton Diggs Mining Project™
The Clayton Diggs Mining Project™ is a dynamic experiential learning exercise designed to introduce participants to the principles of Sustainable Development in the mining industry.
The Program
Clayton Diggs, the program’s lead facilitator, has struck gold, and wants to start a mining project near the town of Diggsville.
But how can the competing needs of the company, the community and the environment be effectively met? Working in groups of 6 people, team members take on the role of various stakeholders (Mine Manager, Concerned Parent, Business Leader, Environmental NGO, etc.), and score points by completing a series of challenges, during which:
- Teams must make choices about how SD principles should be implemented in practice.
- Players must think on their feet, challenging common assumptions about SD.
- Key elements of SD must be matched with their best definition - a test of understanding and insight
Team discussion and decision-making are integral to success and afford the opportunity for increased learning based on the individual expertise represented within the team. The emphasis is on learning rather than winning, although the inherent competition always keeps the action lively and the teams engaged.
The program’s unique packaging and delivery ensures a productive and fun-filled learning experience.
